The Wonder of Fifty Shades of Grey

The Wonder of Fifty Shades of Grey

Fifty Shades of Grey has become a world wide sensation with many reports saying that it will soon become a feature film. When I first heard about this book, I read the negative reviews first and was put off buying it. Then I found many people from different discussion groups, talking about Fifty Shades of Grey, and I just had to see what all the fuss was about.

 Fifty Shades of Grey

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

Shocked yet thrilled by Grey’s singular erotic tastes, Ana hesitates. For all the trappings of success—his multinational businesses, his vast wealth, his loving family—Grey is a man tormented by demons and consumed by the need to control. When the couple embarks on a daring, passionately physical affair, Ana discovers Christian Grey’s secrets and explores her own dark desires.

Erotic, amusing, and deeply moving, the Fifty Shades Trilogy is a tale that will obsess you, possess you, and stay with you forever.

The main reasons I decided to read this book,

1. The connection it had with the Twilight series, as I did enjoy reading those books.

2. It seemed to have caused some negative response due to the theme of the story.

3. I found the books on the shelves in two of my local supermarkets so far.

Three reasons to read a book, so I did the only thing I could, I bought the book and set about reading the story which has captured so many women.

I loved it. Fifty Shades of Grey had everything I love to read about. It had an enjoyable plot, well-worked characters, and some steamy sex thrown into the mix. The chemistry between Ana and Christian had me gasping at times. I loved how possessive he was, to the point that he knew so much about her. E.L James has written a story, which to some extent reminds me of Twilight (only for the first person writing) but also transports the reader into the story.

There are only a few books that I read with the first person narrative and so it was a surprise to me when I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Now, there have been many comments about the way that it is written and I don’t feel qualified enough to criticise a piece of writing. I know the moment I switched on my kindle and began reading the book, I was transported and held in place by a wonderfully told story. I do not agree with the view point of ‘Mummy Porn’. This story has so much more going for it than that.

The other benefit I feel, is the amount of other books I’ve found because of Fifty Shades of Grey. There have been many lists created on what to read after you’ve read Fifty Shades of Grey and because of this I have found so many wonderful stories which are listed below.

Books I’ve read:

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Sempre Forever by JM Darhower

Unforgivable by Lindsay Delagair

Untouchable by Lindsay Delagair

Books I’ve yet to read:

Thoughtless by S.C. Stephens

Gabriel’s Inferno by Sylvain Reynard

Mercy by Annabel Joseph

Black Butterfly by Sienna Mynx

I now wait with impatience for E.L. James to announce that she will rewrite the same series but in Christians, point of view. I know I’ll be buying that if or when it comes out.

So, what are your thoughts? Did you like Fifty Shades of Grey? What other books have you read since to get your fix?

I would love to hear your thoughts.

Guest: Isabella Olivia Ellis

Hello and welcome Isabella Olivia Ellis to my site. She has so graciously agreed to be interviewed.

So lets begin…

1) First, tell us a little about yourself so the readers know who you are?

My name is Isabella Olivia Ellis, but I answer to Bella or Izzy. I am 25 years old and I have a daughter who is nearly 2. I am currently planning a backpacking trip through Europe to expand my experiences and thus improve my writing.

2) What made you decide to write? Was it something you accidentally began? Or what you wanted to do? Or annoying character who refused to leave until their story was told?

I’ve been writing stories and such since I was a small child. I decided to move into erotica because it seemed fun. I wanted to write about romances with happy ever afters. And sex. Writing about sex is awesome.

3) I love hearing about first acceptances as an aspiring writer and now that I am e-published, I still love hearing about them. So tell us about that first acceptance.

My first acceptance was for The Vampire’s Bride. I spent months writing it and I was so terrified to finally submit it. Being rejected is never fun, but when you’ve put so much time into something, it can feel defeating. So, when I got that acceptance email, I almost cried from joy.

4) Tell us about your current release? Where can readers buy it from?

My most recent release is The Vampire’s Second. It is the second book of the Chosen series. It picks up where The Vampire’s Bride left off, but it also takes its own very different spin on things. It moves from the MF romance of the first book into a steamy MFM situation. It was interesting, to say the least, to move into writing a ménage.

It can be purchased from Evernightpublishing.com, Amazon.com, Bookstrand.com, and Allromanceebooks.com.

5) What are you currently writing?

The third and final book of the Chosen series. It is titled The Vampire’s Sister. It focuses on Sloane’s sister, Emma, and her own romance. Though, there is still plenty about Caroline, Luke, and Sloane.

6) What inspires you most when you write?

I tend to write as things come to me. Since I work solely from feeling, I go by what I want to happen next to my characters.

7) What experiences have you had working with your publisher/s?

The only publisher that I am currently under contract with is Evernight Publishing, and I couldn’t rave about them enough. They’re fast, easy to work with, and author-friendly.

8) What are you reading now?

The Alienist by Caleb Carr. I’ve read it twice before, but I really enjoy re-reading books and returning to the characters.

9) What are your guilty pleasures?

French fries, terribly made horror films, and shopping on Amazon.

10) What would be your advice, if any, for other aspiring authors?

Learn about the genre in which you want to write in. When I first started writing erotica, I had no clue what “head hopping” was. I didn’t know what terms such as “HEA”, “MMF”, etc stood for. Do your homework, basically.

This is for you to talk more about yourself, leave your blogging details, site details and generally promote yourself.
