Hello and welcome Doris O’Connor to my site. She has so graciously agreed to be interviewed.
Thanks so much for having me here today, Sam
So lets begin…
1) First, tell us a little about yourself so the readers know who you are?
Okay – deep breath. I write contemporary and paranormal Erotic romance and am also a SAHM of nine little and not so little hooligans. Hubby and I have been together for twenty-five years (not quite sure how that happened, when I’m only twenty-one myself and we live with our brood of kids and pets in a far too small house in Bedordshire, England. At any given time, I wear so many different hats, even I forget who I am at times, lol. And do NOT talk to me about laundry!
2) What made you decide to write? Was it something you accidentally began? Or what you wanted to do? Or annoying character who refused to leave until their story was told?
I don’t think anyone begins writing accidentally, do they? I was an only child, so my imagination and my books were pretty much my friends from as early on as I can remember. Once I could write I was forever penning stories and was aways pulled up for daydreaming, lol. As an adult life got in the way for the longest time. Then back in September 2010 a friend entered a writing competition and I thought to myself, well it’s now or never. Didn’t get anywhere in that competiion, but I have been writing ever since.
3) I love hearing about first acceptances as an aspiring writer and now that I am e-published, I still love hearing about them. So tell us about that first acceptance.
What? You didn’t hear me squeal where you were?
August 2nd 2011, that’s when I got that all important e-mail.My first, great story, we would like to offer you a contract, e-mail. I was in the middle of cooking dinner, and decided to check my e-mails one last time, as you do.
This is what followed:
“Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh My God, Oh my GOD!” Incoherent screeching from me.
Cue hubby and kids come flying towards me from all angles of our house. I was heavily pregnant at the time, so they all thought I was going into labour. I’m still amazed I didn’t to be honest. Especially as I got an acceptance for another story with a different publisher two days later.
* big grin*
Baby was eventually born August 8th. He likes the limelight, so I reckon he was hanging on in there, to make sure he didn’t have to share his entrance into the world with a contract. That day was going to be all about him!
4) Tell us about your current release? Where can readers buy it from?
I have two: RIDING HER TIGER released May 1st and TOO COLD TO LOVE releases today!
Blurb for Riding her Tiger
Can one night change your life forever?
Estelle has been lusting after her kinky boss Nathan for ages, but how you do you snare a much older Dom? You enlist the help of the internet.
Matched to exploration facilitator Ink, Estelle explores her submissive fantasies to the full. When online sex turns to a real life ménage will a case of mistaken identity ruin her chances with Nathan?
Or will the shifter claim his mate?
Blurb for Too Cold To Love
Marco Giovanni has shut off his emotions, following a messy divorce. His small daughter and his chain of bakeries are all he needs in his life. The string of nannies are an unfortunate necessity he could well do without. So why does his body have to remember its needs now with the latest and most unsuitable nanny ever?
Elise has always been the responsible one, so when she receives yet another SOS phone call from her wayward twin, she does the only thing she can do, she steps into her shoes. Having to go back to nannying is hard enough, the unexpected attraction to her arrogant employer impossible to deal with. Especially when she is forced to agree to a marriage of his convenience to pay off the debt her twin accrued.
In a marriage based on blackmail can passion turn into love, or will secrets and lies destroy all?
Too Cold To Love is book two in the Giovanni series and readers will find many familiar faces from book one, Too Hot To Handle. It shows life in the Giovanni clan eighteen months on and I had great fun revisiting old characters and further developing Stella, the head of the Giovanni.
Marco and Elise’s story is very different to Alex and Kitty’s. I struggled with Marco at the beginning, because he didn’t want to reveal his feelings, not even to me. But Elise is just who he needed to open up and as they struggle through their marriage they end up healing each other.
It gets very emotional in parts, be warned! And of course their chemistry is off the scale, as you’d expect from my characters. Marco proves very inventive, shall we say…
5) What are you currently writing?
I’m almost finished with a Naughty Fairytale, which is a twist on My Little Mermaid with a bit of Beauty and the Beast thrown in too. I’m quite excited about this one, I have to say. I aim to sub it this week, so we shall see. Then I had an idea for a f/f short for my publisher’s new Anthology call and I need to write Book two in my Club Ink series. Those tigers are growling at me again, and ya know, really don’t want to argue with them.
6) What inspires you most when you write?
I need to have some visual inspiration in front of me, especially of the heroes.
Somehow words flow very easily then. And other than that I get inspired from all sorts. I never can tell what will spark my muse, but she seems to respond well to submission calls I’ve noticed, even if I then go off an a tangent, because I’m such a panster, lol.
7) What experiences have you had working with your publisher/s?
With the exception of one experience they have been very positive. It’s always such a learning curve and with every publisher and editor I’ve worked with I’ve learnt lots. I must say though that Evernight Publishing have simply ruined me for anyone else, lol. I’m very happy in the Evernight family and I can’t see that changing any time soon.
8) What are you reading now?
Carolyn Rosewood’s excellent Naughty Fairy Tale The Rebellious Princess Choses Two Lovers.
9) What are your guilty pleasures?
I don’t do guilty, lol. I take my pleasures without guilt. I’m incredibly busy, so when I do take out time for myself, I enjoy it. Having said that it usually just involves locking myself away to write, having a loooong soak in the bath and the occasional meal and meet up with friends. Yeah, I lead such a rock-n-roll lifetsyle
10) What would be your advice, if any, for other aspiring authors?
Find a good critique group, keep writing, and never, ever give up. The more you write, the stronger your voice will be. Write what your heart tells you to write, not what you think you ought to be writing. Read lots, and read some more and do not take rejections personally. They are simply part of the process.
This is for you to talk more about yourself, leave your blogging details, site details and generally promote yourself.
Thanks again for having me Sam If you’d like to win a copy of either one of my new relases, then leave me a comment. You can check the excerpts on my website.
